The Snake The Cross The Crown

I first saw The Snake The Cross The Crown with Murder By Death a few years ago. I saw them and thought they were god awful and were a lame punky punk emo generic ass shit band and they totally were. The next time I saw them was with Murder by Death once again and they were completely different and awesome. They have more of a folky rock sound to them. I can't explain things, this is a new song they just put out, it is a dandy.

Men Women and Children

The Men Women and Children album leaked on to the internet recently and I have been pumping it in my Pontiac Sunfire for the past couple of days. It's a nice time. Some of the songs I'm not really digging, but some of them I really am. Here are two that I really am that haven't been on their myspace before and all that jazz.

Twitty Tuesday

I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately, but I'm in this crazyass business class that is very time consuming along with all of my other classes and work and band stuff and life stuff and eating and shows and it's been a mess. It sucks, but my posting might be slimmer in the coming weeks/months. I'm hoping to keep it up though.

Anyway, I've been listening to Conway Twitty "25 #1's" in my car for the past couple of days and it reminded me of what a badass song "Slow Hand" is. It's a rocking tune about ol Conway and how he knows his lady doesn't want a fast lover, she just wants a man with a slow hand. Conway has that slow hand.

Daniel Brummel and the Contraband

So yeah, Ozma got back together (hooray!) a week or so ago, so I thought now would be a good time to pull some Daniel Brummel and the Contraband stuff out of my collection. Mr. Brummel is the bassist of Ozma (and of the Elected) and is just an all around awesome dude. While Ozma was still going strong a few years back he was doing some solo stuff that turned out to be pretty good (this was back when mp3.com was still godly.) I didn't have most of his solo so I embarked on a long journey to get it all, I still don't have it all, but I've got some good stuff. I think so anyway, enjoy!

- some would say this is the best cover of a weezer song that has ever been done, I would have to agree.

Attractive and Popular

I stated a few posts back that I went to see these guys (and gal) at the Hi-Pointe and they were amazing. This is still very true. Most of their songs are just over a minute or two and they're filled with goodtimes galore. The whole time they were playing I couldn't stop giggling around, it was fantastic. They also turned out to be super awesome friendly people. But you're saying to yourself, "What do they sound like Corey?" Well, I am awful at describing bands, but I'll try my hardest. They have a keyboardist, they sound very dance rocky at times, they have some nutty lyrics, but they aren't really silly, they're really fun. That's all I can do so do yourself a favor and check out Attractive and Popular.

Twitty Tuesday (on Wednesday)

I'm sorry Conway fans for the slacking off, but I'm out of the apartment for 12 hours straight on Tuesday. Tuesday is a horrible day filled with nonstop class and work from 9 in the morning until 9:30 at night. So it's hard when things in my life are all crazy and I'm gone all day. I'll try to start getting Twitty Tuesday ready on Monday and then throw it up early in the morning or something. Anyway, today I'm posting "You've never been this far before." It's a simple song about Conway making love to a woman and he can totally tell that it's her first time, but being the man that he is, Conway is going to treat her right.

Ozma lives!

This is totally old news, but I have a terrible headache and I'm tired. As you probably know, Ozma recently decided to get back together (without their drummer guy) and get down to the business of getting down once again. This was wonderful news after everything the members were doing post-Ozma was sucking. Here's one of my favorite Ozma tracks off of their last album.

Ozma - Wake Up

I'll possibly be posting some Daniel Brummel (Ozma bassist) and the Contraband stuff in the next week or two. Whoohoo!

Imogen Heap

I've heard her name a billion times, but I never listened to Imogen Heap until I decided to watch her on David Letterman a few nights ago. I thought her performance was really interesting/beautiful and downloaded some stuff and I really enjoy it. Anyways, I found the Letterman performance over at Arjan Writes.

You can download it here

or watch it on youtube here

Murder by Death covering David Bowie

I was busy yesterday and didn't get around to posting a cover tune, so I decided I would do it today. Today's cover is Murder by Death's rendition of David Bowie's "Five Years." The song comes from a 7" they released as a tribute to their friend Matt Davis of the band Ten Grand, who passed away in 2003. I recorded this tune straight from my record player about a year and a half ago and now it is yours to enjoy and listen to for the rest of your life.

new MC Chris!

MC Chris put up a new song on his livejournal. It's awesome. I'm a big MC fan, I even opened for him once and it was an amazing night. This song samples some Gary Glitter, references Chris Gaines and the upcoming Ghost Rider movie. I'm not sure of the title, I'm just guessing. Check it out.

Twitty Tuesday!

Hello there! School is being a rough beast this semester so I apologize if I start slacking or being crappier than usual. I'm gone for 12 hours straight on Tuesdays, which really puts a damper on the great day that is Twitty Tuesday. This one is going to be quick because I am very tired and I'm going to go watch Battle Royale. "Hello Darlin" is a great Conway tune, it pulls on the heart. He's just trying to tell his baby that he misses her and didn't mean to do her wrong.

- Ozma is back together, you ain't no picasso beat me to it and posted some good ozma tracks, I'll post one or two when my internet stops being crazy. Which reminds me, my internet is being crazy. As soon as I get on my computer it stops working. My roommates have a blast on it all day long with their superfastness, but as soon as I get on the internet in our apartment dies.

new Ima Robot

I first heard of Ima Robot a few years ago because i heard a couple of the guys were in Beck's band (like their bassist Justin who has worked with tons of people.) I thought their album was alright (Black Jetta's was totally awesome), it was fun anyway. I also ended up seeing them live with Junior Senior at one point. All of Ima Robot's equipment cases said Oleander on them (Oleander is a crappy alternative rock band that is probably no longer doing anything.) Ima Robot was really fun live (not as fun as Junior Senior), but the only thing I can remember about their performance was their singer. He came out wearing this odd fitting yellow tank top and kept grabbing at the ceiling and wandering about. Also, as soon as he came out this horrible smell filled the air and as soon as he left it was gone, so the guy smelled awful.

Ima Robot seemed to drop off the radar for awhile, but now they're working on a new album that's going to come out this year. Here's some demos from their myspace.

I go back to school today and I'm sick. I hate being sick. I'll post some stuff later.

Debracadabra

HeadAutomatica.net has been posting some tracks from Debracadabra lately. It looks like these songs were recorded by the band awhile back while on tour. They're a lot mellower than the usual HA stuff, but still very awesome.

I saw Attractive and Popular last night and they were incredible, i'll be posting some more by them soon.

Whirlwind Heat

I thought I'd post another cover song for the day and I was looking around through my files and came across Whirlwind Heat. It's been awhile since I listened to them and it was very refreshing to hear them again. If you haven't heard them before, they make this crazyass noise poprock mess of music, it's really nice though. They released their first album "Do Rabbits Wonder?" in 2003 on the White Stripes' label. They then released an EP called "Flamingo Honey" that had 10 one minute songs on it on Dim Mak. Now they're prepping to release their new album "Types of Wood." Anyways, here's a track off of Flamingo Honey along with their cover of the White Stripes' "You're Pretty Good Looking" from the Hot Chick soundtrack of all places.

David E. Sugar

I first came across David E. Sugar from my awesome friend Mark's Top 8. Mark likes some good stuff, so I checked it out and I enjoy David's tunes quite a bit. He uses a gameboy (with some program or technology I have no idea) to create most of his stuff and it turns out to be some nice/fun electropop. It is also cover song Thursday so I've included his cover of The Cure's Just Like Heaven.

Warm Analogue

oh no!

So lately I have been hosting my files on this old college account thing that I had from 2 years ago (I switched schools) and everything has been wonderful since they still let me use it for some weird reason. All that has changed now. Either they're stuff is just down right now (which is a possibility) or they've finally denied me access. So right now a lot of the stuff I've posted in the past few days cannot be downloaded and for further things that I just want to host myself I'm going to have to use some site for a few days at least. I apologize.

All Girl Summer Fun Band

All Girl Summer Fun Band are okay. I'm not a huge fan, but I ran across them today and needed something to put on my blog real quick-like without uploading some stuff myself or recording some stuff off of myspace. So here you go, a song about watching Carson Daly with Jason Lee on it and how dreamy Jason Lee is.

You Ain't No Picasso has a new Of Montreal song. I wish people would send me neat stuff. Of Montreal is going to be in STL next month, Wahoo!

Dan Deacon

I was asked to play a show with this guy and I'm really sad that I can't (he's coming to town the night I already have a show set up.) He's got a really really fun electro vibe going on. It's nice and fun and I like that. Especially this cover

Twitty Tuesday

Alrighty, it's time for the second installment of Twitty Tuesday featuring the amazing songs of country music legend Conway Twitty. I decided to post "Tight Fittin Jeans" today, because nowadays if someone released a song about tight fitting jeans it would be about how hot some dude feels when he's wearing his tight pants or if it was a country song like this one it would be about those tight pants wearing queers that they see running around and how they need to start bashing them with their pickups. This song isn't about that, it's about ol Conway hanging out at a bar when an attractive lady comes in and he instantly can tell that she's a rich lady looking for a good time, so he gives it to her. You go Conway!
