-The new White Stripes leaked. If you listen to the first 2 tracks you would think it was going to be a great album, but actually the rest of the album is absolutely terrible!

My roommate Andy is the master brain of it and I really dig it. Yeah baby. He recently did a song with our pal Jessica Hutson that I really enjoy.

So wow. I never really listened to Tegan and Sara much. I heard "Walking With A Ghost" and some remixes and covers of it and was into that, but never took the time to listen to much else. Their new album The Con leaked so I decided to give it a listen and it's pretty much great. I've been listening to it all day yesterday and all this morning. I stumbled across Muscles yesterday. I had never heard of Muscles, but I guess he's a big deal. Maybe not a huge deal, but he's a deal of some sort. It's electro music, but it's not shitty. I don't really know how to explain it. I really like his voice as well. He's played some shows with Architecture In Helsinki recently if that helps at all. Yeeep.

R Kelly's new album Double Up leaked and I'm disappointed. With titles like Sex Planet, Havin' a Baby, and Freaky in the Club, I was really hoping for some good times, but not so much. Sex Planet is a slow jam, so that let me down. I thought there was no way Havin' a Baby could not be hilarious, but it's about being happy about having a baby instead of Ooooooh shit she's having a baby. I did find one song I really enjoy though and that's Rock Star featuring the talents of Ludacris and Kid Rock. Kid Rock! Kid Rock doesn't do enough in this song I think, but oh well. He doesn't even get his own verse. Luda's line about poking a girl to death is gold though.

I apologize for not using a bunch of quotes around song titles. That would have been a lot of quotes.

Movie Review: 28 Weeks Later

I was pretty excited to go see this movie. I liked the first movie, but I was like this one will suuuuck. Then I heard nonstop good reviews, so I got excited. I like zombie movies and such, so hooray!

Anyway, this movie sucked. Don't go see it ever. I was bored the whole time. Nothing ever happened that made me enjoy it. It just sucked. In the beginning, I was like ooookay! This is going to be cool, but F no. It's hard to explain. Zombies running real fast like they're mad pissed is pretty cool, but then they just slobber on people. Michael from LOST was in it, that was kinda cool.

I went to the WWE Judgment Day event in St. Louis last night. It was pretty okay, nothing that awesome or anything. Shawn Michaels (my favorite wrestler of all time) just came out and collapsed (he supposedly has a concussion, but really his knee is all messed up) and a lot of the matches just kinda ended shitty style. After it was over we were headed back and stopped at the Steak N Shake in Collinsville only to find Matt and Jeff Hardy hanging out. We got sat right next to them so we talked back and forth and I let them know Trevor Murdoch was a sweet dude. Then some referees came in, which I was way more excited about. It was a good time.

So I was eating Chinese with my friend Lauren and Enrique's "Hero" came on and we discussed how we both thought Enrique was a totally sweet dude with some totally sweet songs. Then we realized that Enrique has been gone for a few years and really wanted to know what he was up to. We got back to my house and hoooooooooot shit! Enrique's got a new single called "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)"...it's seriously called that. After laughing for awhile, we watched the video with some douche director guy hanging out with babes and playing ping pong. In the video Enrique slaps his chest around by his heart area twice real fast along with the beat in one scene. It's pretty much gold. But yeeeeeeah, this Enrique song is awesome. Really really great. I've been listening to it nonstop. Where's Ricky Martin at? He's at home wishing he was half as good as Enrique.

The new Maroon 5 album It Won't Be Soon Before Long leaked this weekend. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "Corey, Maroon 5 is totally lame/they suck hard," they really don't though. Their first album had some catch singles and after hearing their new single "Makes Me Wonder" I decided I'd give this album a try. It's not super awesome or anything, but it's got some good tunes. Just give it a listen.

The new Ozma album Pasadena leaked a few days ago. It's pretty good stuff. I was really excited to hear the new version of "No One Needs To Know" and it's pretty much like the original, but a little more polished and rocking. My favorite track from it has to be "Heartache vs. Heartbreak" it's sweet and lovely and has Rachel Haden from The Rentals providing the lady singing parts. Yep.

Langhorne Slim - Checking Out
I saw Langhorne Slim open for Murder By Death awhile back and they put on a really good show. I just now got around to listening to them and I remember this song being my favorite out of the live set and it's probably my favorite off the album as well.

Subtle - The Mercury Craze
I'll be seeing these fellows with TV on the Radio soon and if you want to know what they sound like think of TV on the Radio mixed with Gnarls Barkley mixed with...actually I think that might do it.

George Jones - Tall, Tall Trees
I'm an idiot. I always though Alan Jackson did this song first, but no way. George Jones did it way back when and I've always liked this song.

Manchester Orchestra - I Can Barely Breathe
I saw these guys open for Brand New a few months ago and they were dandy. I enjoyed them possibly more than Brand New? Not really, but Brand New was a let down and these guys rocked. This tune has a nice line about flying solo and so high...get it? Yeah it's pretty awesome.

At the People's Choice Awards Halle Berry won Favorite Female Action Star for sucking at Storm in X3. She said this about it:

"I had no idea you guys loved Storm so much! Wow, thank you, thank you. And I want to thank Tom Rothman for allowing me to play Storm, and Brett Ratner for allowing Storm to finally use her cape and fly this year." said Halle Berry at yesterday's People's Choice Awards.

Nightcrawler gets married!

Alan Cumming (the actor who played Nightcrawler in X2) married illustrator Grant Shaffer over the weekend. I think it's funny that in the Ultimate X-Men comics, Nightcrawler totally hates gay people and quit being friends with Colossus when he found out that he was gay and went all crazy, but in the movies Nightcrawler was played by a gay man who was also in Son of the Mask which was probably really awful. That'll learn you Nightcrawler. Seriously though, why would Nightcrawler hate Colossus for being gay and get all pissy and judge him for it when Nightcrawler himself is blue and has a tail? Ultimate Nightcrawler needs to chill out.

I love Attractive and Popular. Their live show is full of nonstop rock and they just blow my mind. They're one of my favorite bands, there's no doubt about it. I've had the wonderful honor of playing a few shows with them and it's going to happen again this Sunday in Belleville, IL @ The Ground Floor. So if you're in the area, be sure to check it out.

A&P will be releasing their album Money Equals Magic in May 2007 through Gold Standard Labs who has worked with !!!, The Rapture, The Faint, Mars Volta, The Locust, Melt Banana and more. I've had the album for awhile now (unless they re-recorded it) and it's fantastic.

Remember Alien Ant Farm? I thought they were amazing back in the day, that feeling kinda left after awhile. After coming across their album ANThology in a cd case that my father found in a box of junk at an auctioin, I let my roommate Andy put it on his iPod and we rocked our way to Chicago for new years listening to AAF. It was a good time and I actually really still like some of their songs. They're actually still together and released a third album in 2006. The original guitarist and bassist both left in recent years (the guitarist joined Powerman 5000), but Alien Ant Farm is still kicking around, good for them! Here's two of those awesome AAF jams.

More Marvel Zombies!

So I was browsing about through Wikipedia the other day and learned all kinds of great Marvel Zombies news! I'm sure I'm a little late with all this, but I'm still really excited. It's been announced that there is going to be a one off prequel comic explaining how some of the heroes became zombies and leads up to the Ultimate Fantastic Four storyline that started it all. There's also going to be a mini-series called Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness where Ash from AOD is in this alternate zombie marvel universe battling the zombie heroes. There's also going to eventually be a Marvel Zombies 2. Hooray Hooray Hooray!

I first saw The Snake The Cross The Crown with Murder By Death a few years ago. I saw them and thought they were god awful and were a lame punky punk emo generic ass shit band and they totally were. The next time I saw them was with Murder by Death once again and they were completely different and awesome. They have more of a folky rock sound to them. I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately, but I'm in this crazyass business class that is very time consuming along with all of my other classes and work and band stuff and life stuff and eating and shows and it's been a mess. It sucks, but my posting might be slimmer in the coming weeks/months. I'm hoping to keep it up though.

Anyway, I've been listening to Conway Twitty "25 #1's" in my car for the past couple of days and it reminded me of what a badass song "Slow Hand" is. So yeah, Ozma got back together (hooray!) a week or so ago, so I thought now would be a good time to pull some Daniel Brummel and the Contraband stuff out of my collection. Mr. Brummel is the bassist of Ozma (and of the Elected) and is just an all around awesome dude. While Ozma was still going strong a few years back he was doing some solo stuff that turned out to be pretty good (this was back when mp3.com was still godly.) I didn't have most of his solo so I embarked on a long journey to get it all, I still don't have it all, but I've got some good stuff. I think so anyway, enjoy!

I stated a few posts back that I went to see these guys (and gal) at the Hi-Pointe and they were amazing. This is still very true. Most of their songs are just over a minute or two and they're filled with goodtimes galore. The whole time they were playing I couldn't stop giggling around, it was fantastic. They also turned out to be super awesome friendly people. But you're saying to yourself, "What do they sound like Corey?" Well, I am awful at describing bands, but I'll try my hardest. They have a keyboardist, they sound very dance rocky at times, they have some nutty lyrics, but they aren't really silly, they're really fun. That's all I can do so do yourself a favor and check out Attractive and Popular.

I'm sorry Conway fans for the slacking off, but I'm out of the apartment for 12 hours straight on Tuesday. Tuesday is a horrible day filled with nonstop class and work from 9 in the morning until 9:30 at night. So it's hard when things in my life are all crazy and I'm gone all day. I'll try to start getting Twitty Tuesday ready on Monday and then throw it up early in the morning or something. Anyway, today I'm posting "You've never been this far before." I was busy yesterday and didn't get around to posting a cover tune, so I decided I would do it today. Today's cover is Murder by Death's rendition of David Bowie's "Five Years." The song comes from a 7" they released as a tribute to their friend Matt Davis of the band Ten Grand, who passed away in 2003. I recorded this tune straight from my record player about a year and a half ago and now it is yours to enjoy and listen to for the rest of your life.

Hello there! School is being a rough beast this semester so I apologize if I start slacking or being crappier than usual. new Ima Robot

I first heard of Ima Robot a few years ago because i heard a couple of the guys were in Beck's band (like their bassist Justin who has worked with tons of people.) I thought their album was alright (Black Jetta's was totally awesome), it was fun anyway. I also ended up seeing them live with Junior Senior at one point. All of Ima Robot's equipment cases said Oleander on them (Oleander is a crappy alternative rock band that is probably no longer doing anything.) Ima Robot was really fun live (not as fun as Junior Senior), but the only thing I can remember about their performance was their singer. He came out wearing this odd fitting yellow tank top and kept grabbing at the ceiling and wandering about. Also, as soon as he came out this horrible smell filled the air and as soon as he left it was gone, so the guy smelled awful.

Ima Robot seemed to drop off the radar for awhile, but now they're working on a new album that's going to come out this year. Here's some demos from their myspace.

I thought I'd post another cover song for the day and I was looking around through my files and came across Whirlwind Heat. It's been awhile since I listened to them and it was very refreshing to hear them again. If you haven't heard them before, they make this crazyass noise poprock mess of music, it's really nice though. They released their first album "Do Rabbits Wonder?" in 2003 on the White Stripes' label. They then released an EP called "Flamingo Honey" that had 10 one minute songs on it on Dim Mak. Now they're prepping to release their new album "Types of Wood." Anyways, here's a track off of Flamingo Honey along with their cover of the White Stripes' "You're Pretty Good Looking" from the Hot Chick soundtrack of all places.

I first came across David E. Sugar from my awesome friend Mark's Top 8. Mark likes some good stuff, so I checked it out and I enjoy David's tunes quite a bit. I was doing my usual myspace music browsings when I came across Chromeo. I know I've heard their name before and maybe even listened, but this was the first time I actually listened. They've got a pretty unique style I think, it's some kind of soulful electropop hiphop combination. They also use a talkbox and describe themselves as a "thugged out Hall and Oates." My friend Wes was really into these guys when they were called Anatomy of a Ghost and were screamo-y. We saw them at the Warped Tour a few years ago and they talked to us awhile and took pictures with us and all that jazz. I didn't really care for them then (except the nice moustaches they had), but Portugal The Man is okay with me. I remember listening to Portugal The Man awhile back and thinking it was a lot more like music to sleep to (like Sigur Ros) but what I hear now isn't like that so maybe I was wrong or they just sound different now...or maybe they do both. Anyways, I am enjoying Portugal The Man at the moment so I thought I'd share them with you in case you had not heard of them yet. Since I am horrible at describing what bands sound like this is what the insound page says:

I'm a big fan of country music legend Conway Twitty and I think it's a shame that more people aren't into him. My mom was a big fan and I always listened to him in her van when I was younger, a few years ago I just started listening to him on my own and he's totally awesome. He's not an "outlaw" country singer or anything where he sings about being in jail, getting boozed up, and kicking some tail, Conway almost always sings about women, his love for them, and his troubles with them. Anyways, for now on (hopefully) I'll be posting a track from Mr. Twitty every Tuesday along with whatever else I can find. Supersystem used to be known as El Guapo. I had heard of El Guapo and downloaded stuff and all that jazz, but never really got into them until now. I came across them because they're on Touch and Go Records, and I like a lot of their artists, so that's how it went down. Anyways, Supersystem is going to be coming to St. Louis on January 11th (at the Hi-Pointe.) This is great news since I haven't gone to any shows lately. I've got 3 to go to in January now, so yeah! You'll like Supersystem if you're into the whole dancity vibe stuff. They sound like The Rapture kinda.

I saw Vagenius play at the now dead Rocket Bar sometime last year and I really enjoyed them. They were tons of fun, used a keytar, had a tall female singer with huge hair, and covered ACDC's "Money Talks." They have a great synthpoppy vibe going on. They were also a nice bunch of folks. They just finished up recording their full length and I'm really looking forward to it. I was going to wait until something new popped out to post about them, but oh what the heck.

X3 trailer!

The teaser trailer for the 3rd X-Men film is now online!

In it you can catch a glimpse of Angel, Beast, Juggernaut, Kitty Pryde, and all kinds of action. I am very excited. An article in today's USA today mentioned how this will be the final X-movie, which sucks balls in my book. They can't stop before they have Gambit, Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, and a huge dickload of Sentinels tearing the shit out of everything. That's my opinion anyway. Halle Berry is going to be a lameass though and put a stop to the movies (she doesn't want to do it anymore.) Anyways, check it out here.

So i've been looking at the trailer more in depth and the top secret ending is totally going to be SENTINELS! Here's my 3 reasons for this:

1. There's a bunch of destruction/fire/rubble in some scenes probably caused by Sentinels

2. There is a shot of Storm flying down to the ground and behind her are purpley/pink lasers shooting by that probably belong to Sentinels.

3. There is also a shot of Colossus launching Wolverine up into the air and what is up in the air? SENTINELS!

So for this post I'm going to throw out a bunch of awesome news, here it goes:

- So you may have noticed Electric Six's "Danger, High Voltage" being played during a Mr. and Mrs. Smith commercial on the ol television. Well, this reminded me that I hadn't checked the E6 site in a few weeks so I went there and discovered that they finally have a record deal! If you didn't know, they've been without a North American label for their second (awesome) album Senor Smoke. It was released in the UK earlier this year, but never got to enjoy the greatness of US soil until now. The only downside is that they are on Metropolis Records which is a label that features a roster full of metal/goth/industrial kinda of stuff. They did release the last Mindless Self Indulgence album, but they still kind of fit in with all that, but E6 seem a little out of place. They've also announced that they will be touring the US again this spring AND that they'll be releasing a 3rd album in late 2006. Senor Smoke will be released in the US on February 7th, 2006 and you can pre-order it here. Until then, here's the leadoff track:

On tonight's episode of Lost I couldn't help but getting all excited when a great song by Skeeter Davis was playing in the background of the diner when Kate was telling her mother goodbye. It's called "The End of the World" and is a nice touching little ditty. I first heard about it because I have some obscure mp3 of Rivers Cuomo covering a bit of it and it said it was a Nina Gordon (ex Veruca Salt) cover. I downloaded Nina Gordon's version and later found out that it was actually a Skeeter Davis cover. If I was an awesome guy I would post all 3, but I'm not because I have tons of studying to be doing. I apologize, but once again my posts are going to be few and shitty this week and probably next week as well. School is getting closer to an end and a lot of studying and other things need to get done.

So I like Head Automatica. Their first album was a lot more dancier rock kinda stuff, but all the new stuff sounds completely different. They're going for more of a Squeeze type of pop rock kinda vibe. I'm still trying to decide if I like it as much. Here's some acousticy covers they did on some radio show. Performance are an electropop band from the UK. They sound a lot like 80s synthpop acts like Human League or Depeche Mode. They're just really fun, poppy, and catchy. They're releasing a 7" single for their song "Surrender" on December 12th over in the UK with some more releases to follow next year. Here's some tunes:

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week, I've been home for a few days and been busy and whatnot.

Anyways, Bravo Silva is a duo from New York that I recently stumbled upon. I saw them on myspace and thought they were alright so I downloaded their songs and forgot about them. That is until I needed a few extra tracks for a "driving home for Thanksgiving" mix CD and decided to throw their song "Strawberry Blonde" on it. I'm really liking this song and I think the singer sounds a bit like Sting on it. I'm horrible at describing what stuff sounds like so here's what their site says:

"Bravo Silva makes pop rock music that is at once extremely listenable and sonically complex. The songs take a crash course through 80s radio rock melody, singer/songwriter verse, and 70s prog rock theatrics. Lush and textured soundscapes call to mind the arrangements of Blonde Redhead and 10cc, and pop-oriented melodies draw from The Outfield and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers."

The folks at Vitamin Records were awesome enough to send me this CD that I've been drooling over for quite awhile. The CD is pretty much some various (for the most part little known) indie bands covering Kanye songs from The College Dropout. I'm going to post two particularly awesome covers from my favorite indie/electro/pop band from Texas, Belaire, and Fancy Feast which actually is a solo act featuring Cari Palazzolo from Belaire. Both of these tracks are great, so check them out.

So I really love Belaire. They recently sent me some stickers and a button and they're just plain awesome. In the next day or two I'm going to post something pretty awesome from them, so be on the look out for that. They're going to be releasing a 7" sometime this month full of some awesome spooky songs. I first heard about Men Women and Children because their guitarist (Todd Weinstock) was kicked out of Glassjaw who I used to/still kinda do love a whole bunch. He didn't even know it was happening, he was just given the boot along with their bassist and drummer. This pissed me off quite a bit since I really liked the lineup they had, but what can you do. Anyways, Todd had been working on another band that sounded more like Prince (I saw him say that somewhere once.) Well, they sound like Prince if he was all hopped on a whole bunch of dance rock and wanted to shake some ass. They're pretty awesome and they recently put up a studio version of their awesome track "dance in my blood." Check out some tunes below:

I ran across this on The Rainbow's myspace page. I'm not really sure what it's from or what the deal is with him lately. Originally, he was a one man funkassing band, but I heard the last time he came around here (I sadly missed it) he was with a full band and played "shitty punk songs" and none of his old stuff and it "sucked balls." I wasn't there so I don't know, but he's coming back to STL on Thursday with The Mae Shi and So Many Dynamos and I am going to be there and hopefully I will be rejoicing.

Weezer Perfect Situation video

New Weezer video! It's pretty entertaining and stars Elisha Cuthbert as a crazy bitch. My only complaint is that once again Weezer have fucked with a perfectly good song. It seems to me that when they release a single they decide to spice it up a bit or something to make it more single-like. They did it with Keep Fishin, Beverly Hills (it varied greatly from the original version some radio stations got), WAAOD was edited, and I don't know that could be it, but it seems to me like they do that shit a lot. This time they changed the chorus of the song a bit (make it not as good) and added some lameass background vocals at the end saying "perfect situation." Oh well.
